Storyline:

The term «City on a Hill» (the City on the Hill) comes from a sermon of John Winthrop, colonizer of the Bay of Massachusetts in the seventeenth century, entitled «A Christian Charity Model»: «We will be the city that glows in the distance on the hill. » Advocating Puritanism and highlighting the prevalence of Christianity in the founding of America, this quote was taken by many American politicians, including President Ronald Reagan. It underlines the willingness of the country to be a model and guide to the world, and is intimately linked to the history of the State of Massachusetts, whose capital is Boston. The city, plagued by corruption and gangs, has experienced a dramatic decline in crime rates in the 1990s, to the point that this period is dubbed «The Boston Miracle.» The series of Tom Fontana (creator of Oz and Borgia) retranscribes this moment of tipping in the history of the city, embodied by the struggle of the prosecutor Ward, following both the point of view of the justice and the gangsters, until in their intimate life.
